L Asnikumar reviews ongoing LDA undertakings at joint meeting

Loktak Development Authority Chairman M Asnikumar Singh convened a joint meeting of the Technical, Scientific & Administrative officials of Loktak Development Authority at the conference hall of its Head Office at North AOC, Imphal today.
At the outset, the Chairman heartily thanked all the officials and staff of LDA for the improvement work of Loktak Lake Front and the jetty at Sendra, Loktak Lake, in a short time for the recently concluded G20 event in the State.
He then reviewed all the ongoing works of LDA, namely, removal of 'phumdies', weeds, and grass from Loktak lake, research and monitoring, catchment conservation, community engagement etc and instructed officials to carry on the work smoothly and efficiently.
He sought a detailed status report on all the machinery and vehicles within a week for proper allocation and utilization and further directed them to expedite scientific and community engagement works.

The LDA Chairman then instructed officials to submit a detailed report on all the existing Inland Transport Terminal Building of Loktak lake located at different locations along the lake boundary.
Reportedly, the highlight of the meeting was the discussion on various measures for the conservation of other associate wetlands like Pumlen, Khoidum, Ekop, Kharung, and Loushi pat, which are part of the loktak wetland complex.
A decision to assess the present condition of associated wetlands was also taken, with the assessment team submitting a detailed report in consultation with local elected representatives and local communities, NGOs working for conservation causes in a planned but expeditious manner.
The Chairman also laid down the vision of CM N Biren Singh to revive Loktak's biodiversity (and its associated wetlands) and extensive measures for the revival, complete rejuvenation and conservation of Loktak lake and its associated wetlands.
The meeting also deliberated on the upcoming Regional Workshop on Wise Use Policy of Wetlands under the aegis of MOEFCC, Govt of India, in the mid of March to be hosted by LDA at Loktak Lake and considered the idea of organizing a national seminar on "ecology" at the Loktak lake site in April 2023 in connection with G20 and C20 (a G20 platform for civil society organizations) .
