Imphal, June 13 2014 :
The Chief Executive Officer of Ukhrul Autonomous District Council has been accused of deducting Rs 500 each from the salaries of all teachers and non-teaching staff working in Primary Schools placed under the ADC.
This was stated by the joint action committee of the aggrieved teachers.
Speaking to media persons at Nagaram here today, JAC convenor Kh Shangreihan said that CEO Mrs Kh Leiyaphy Rita deducted Rs 500 from the salaries of January and February this year in advance without giving any reason.
Taking strong exception to the CEO's conduct, a written complaint was submitted to Ukhrul ADC Chairman John Raleng and other Members on May 22.But nothing has come out of it till date.
There are 158 Primary Schools under the ADC including many which have been upgraded to the status of Junior High Schools.
These schools have 1063 teachers and 176 non-teaching staff.
After the salaries of January and February were released, salaries for the subsequent months have not been paid.
Shangreihan said that this was the first time salaries were deducted in such manner in his long teaching career of 32 years.
On being enquired about the salary deduction, the CEO reportedly said that it was 'professional tax'.
Again, on being argued that it has nothing to do with professional tax as Rs 2500 is deducted annually as professional tax, the CEO threatened the teachers that they would be transferred to far off or remote places.
The CEO also verbally abused teachers when they applied for leave regardless of how authentic the reason was.
The convenor urged the relevant authority to take up befitting action against CEO Leiyaphy Rita.
