Tamenglong, June 13 2014 :
The Zeliangrong Baudi, Manipur (ZB-M) and Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur (ZSUM) have warned of resorting to a series of drastic form of agitations if the state Government of Manipur creates a separate full-fledged Jiribam district by carving out portions from Tousem Sub-Division and Nungba Sub-Division of Tamenglong district.
Before taking any decision in this regard, the state authority should consult the concerned authorities of Zeliangrong people, ZB-M and ZSUM said.
The two Zeliangrong organisations said they are not against the creation of any district in Manipur or elsewhere saying it is for the effective governance and administrative conveniences.
"However, if the state government goes against the wish and interest of Zeliangrong people, then we will not be a mere spectator.
We will initiate various forms of protest and agitation," ZB-M and ZSUM warned.
The two Zeliangrong organisations said Tamenglong district or the Zeliangrong inhabited areas were divided and the Zeliangrong people were now placed in different administrative areas in Manipur particularly in Churachandpur district, Senapati district under Sadar Hills and Tadubi areas.
According to the two bodies, in all these areas, Zeliangrong people have become minority community and their rights have been suppressed.
Likewise in the proposed creation of Jiribam district, Zeliangrong people will become automatically minority community as there will be further division of their land and resources.
It seems the Government does not like the people but the land and trying its level best to please some particular group at the cost of someone, the two Zeliangrong bodies said, adding categorically, "If this kind of decision is made by the concerned authority, we will no longer trust the Government and the government should never expect loyalty from the people" .
