Imphal, June 13 2014 :
Five nurses of RIMS who have been on cease work strike demanding review of the appointment order of Nursing Superintendent have been suspended and it has been responded with a more intensified ease
work strike.
RIMS Nurses' Association Lamphelpat (RNAL) secretary Kh Mina said that RIMS authority and nurses held a meeting yesterday but the former maintained that there was nothing wrong in the appointment order and they would never yield to the nurses' demand.
Enraged by the rigid stance of RIMS authority, the nurses launched a cease work strike from yesterday itself.
Again it was yesterday itself RIMS Director S Sekharjit issued suspension orders of five staff nurses who happen to be functionaries of the association.
The suspension orders were against the names of RNAL president Ksh Mangolnganbi, AK Tombi, H Sobita, Kh Mina and H Tampha.
Saying that the cease work strike would be intensified to the extreme, Mina informed that there are 22 nurses appointed on contract basis as against 483 regular nurses.
The cease work strike would go on until the nurses' demand is fulfilled and they would abstain from all duties.
On May 27 last, RNAL asked the Director to provide them a copy of RIMS rule book within a period of ten days.
Later a charter of demand was submitted to the Director.
As the RIMS authority refused to consider the nurses' appeal, an application has been submitted to allow RNAL members and their legal advisor participate in the open discussion with the Health Ministry's expert team who are visiting RIMS within the current month, Mina informed.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by the Teachers' Medical Officers' Association (TAMOA) of RIMS held an executive meeting today and decided that the college administration should bring an amicable solution with the agitating nurses by 9 am tomorrow failing which all the clinical heads and consultants would be requested to discharge patients under their control wherever possible and also refrain from admitting patients needing emergency services.
Referring to the High Court ruling of June 9, TAMOA maintained that the demand of the agitating nurses to stay the promotion order of the Assistant Nursing Superintendent till the writ petition is finally disposed off on merit is reasonable and valid.
It further recommended RIMS authority to take steps on war footing so that the case is disposed on merit at the earliest by the High Court as the nurses' association had indicated that the outcome of the Court shall be binding.
