Hemanta quits Cong

With the BJP led NDA coming to power at the Centre with Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister, former Minister M Hemanta, who was elected from Wangjing Tentha on more than one occasion as a Congress man has resigned from the primary membership of the Congress party.
An official intimation in this regard has been forwarded to the president of the All India Congress Committee.
Speaking to reporters at his residence at Palace compound today, the former Minister said that a similar intimation has also been submitted to the president of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, Gaikhangam.
Spelling out the reasons for his resignation, Hemanta, who is also an elected member of the AICC said that he took the decision to quit the Congress following the suggestions and advices of his advisory committee and supporters.
Answering a barrage of questions from the reporters, Hemanta said that Congressmen will know the reasons behind his resignation from the party and hastened to add that he bears no ill will against the party and will not indulge in mud slinging.
Hemanta further said that as of now he is yet to decide which party to join but added that he is considering joining a party which can be a partner of the NDA.
The former Minister also stressed that he would continue to be in active politics.
M Hemanta was elected from Wangjing Tentha Assembly thrice.
In 1995 he was elected as a Congress candidate while in 2000 he was elected as an MSCP candidate.
He returned to the INC and successfully contested the 2007 election.
