As part of its 'Shanghallasi Manipur-Greener Manipur' programme, Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) carried out a drive to plant tree saplings and groom the already planted saplings in campuses of different schools and colleges on Thursday.
Informing this in a statement, MSF said that the campaign was launched on May 4, 2018 and they have been planting saplings and grooming them so that they could grow properly.
Besides, MSF has been planting 1000 saplings on Koubru hills every year since the campaign was launched.
On Thursday, joint teams of MSF Imphal East and Imphal West district committees as well as members of MSF Thoubal and Bishnupur committees carried out similar activities in different school and college campuses, the statement said.
It also emphasised on the importance of increasing green cover to combat the impact of climate change and negative effect of using modern amenities like petroleum fuelled vehicles while calling for public participation in such activities.
The statement further informed that the district units of the federation will take proper care of all the saplings planted by them until they are fully grown while urging for support from teachers and students of different schools and colleges.
