Refrain from disorting cultural heritage of one's community: AZACO, KIMACS

All Zeliangrong Arts and Culture Organisation (AZACO) and Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts and Cultural Society (KIMACS) has appealed to all concerned to refrain from distorting the traditional attire and heritage of indigenous communities of the State during Umang Lai Haraoba celebrations.
Addressing media persons during a press meet held at the head office of KIMACS at Palace Compound today, Azaco's secretary, Golmei Irabot Kabui stated that Meetei/Meitei and Kabui have been sharing a strong bond of love and brotherhood since time immemorial and urged all to abstain from disturbing such peaceful existence by misinterpreting or distorting one's cultural heritage just for mere entertainment and commercial purposes.
Taking into account the presentation of Kabui dance in Lai Haroaba platforms by altering the existing traditional attires and customs as per one's convenience, he expressed concern that it may hurt the sentiments of the particular community and may become the major cause of unrest which may lead to unwanted outcomes.
He maintained that sticking to the norms and customs of a cultural heritage and respecting such traditions will be in the best interest of all and it will help in maintaining peaceful co-existence among different communities.
While speaking at the press meet, Laishram Sanjit, Arts and Culture secretary KIMACS highlighted that the misinterpretation of a particular community's traditions may lead to animosity among different communities therefore one should be careful while performing a traditional dance of another community.
Reacting against such irregularities misinterpreting one's cultural heritage, AZACO and KIMACS cautioned that strict action will be taken up against such violators.
