SDRF CO, three others suspended

The Commanding Officer of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and three other personnel have been suspended for alleged corrupt practices in granting unofficial leave to SDRF personnel, said Addl DGP Clay Khongsai.
Briefing media persons at the conference hall of Imphal West SP today, Clay Khongsai said that a complaint was filed before the Chief Minister stating that some corrupt practices were going on in SDRF while giving (unofficial) leave to SDRF personnel.
Based on the complaint, Imphal East SP M Pradip, Additional SP (Law and Order), Imphal East Arambam Pramesh and he (Clay Khongsai) himself went to SDRF complex at around 6.30 am of May 31 to do an enquiry.
When they reached the SDRF complex, they found only the few quick response team of SDRF but the others were found absent even though the total strength of SDRF personnel in record is 152 including 26 females.
They asked all the personnel and officers of SDRF to report within one hour and a half but only 117 personnel reported as some of them were on leave.
The team headed by the Addl DGP detained 10 personnel for further verification and they disclosed that some personnel of SDRF used to pay money ranging around Rs 5,000 to get one month's unofficial leave.
They further disclosed that 5th IRB Havaldar RK Momosana, Riflemen of MPTC Sagolsem Yainingkhomngamba and Zakiruddin of MPTC, presently holding the post of SDRF CO were actively involved in granting unofficial leave.
Further enquiry revealed that Inspector SL Thangjapao Vaiphei of CID Security was also involved in such corrupt practices.
The enquiry conducted by the Addl DGP's team concluded at around 7 pm of the same day and they submitted their report to the authority concerned.
Based on the report, four personnel of SDRF including the CO have been put under suspension, said the ADGP.
During the enquiry, it came to light that the strength of the trained personnel is lower than the untrained personnel in the SDRF and out of 26 female personnel, 12 are unfit.
Further investigation of the case will be taken up by Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Police Station.
If more officers or personnel are found involved in such corrupt practices, disciplinary action will be taken against them too, Clay Khongsai added.
