Imphal, June 02 2022:
Stating that Manipuri pony is one of the endangered species, veterinary and animal husbandry director Dr Ng Ibotombi has appealed to public to contribute in protecting the rare species.
Addressing a press meet at his office here on Thursday, Dr Ibotombi said that lives of ponies are put at stake by their owners if they let them loose on streets and roads as they are likely to get involved in road accidents or consume toxic waste materials including plastics.
Considering this situation, the directorate issued an order on Wednesday urging owners to take proper care of their horses in their home or keep them at Marjing Polo Complex, Heingang or Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association (MHRPA) ground at Lamphelpat in case they do not have proper stable.
He further said that the directorate in association with MHRPA has been working and introducing several initiatives to protect and conserve Manipuri pony.
He also said that a departmental team along with veterinary and animal husbandry minister Khashim Vashum visited the two grounds for pony and inspected the ongoing works there on Wednesday.
