Imphal, December 27 2014 :
"In case people of Manipur cannot adapt to the 'economic warfare' and socio-economic changes that would sweep across the whole North East region once India's Look East Policy becomes fully opera-tional, all of us would be reduced to the status of beggars in our own birth place", warned Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam.
Speaking at the opening function of Bauddha Mahotsava at Sendra today, Gaikhangam called upon all the people of the State to be prepared and dynamic enough so that they can adapt to the inevitable forces of change.
The event which would continue till December 29 is being jointly organised by the Loktak Eco-Tourism Organisation, Manipur Tou-rism Forum, Indo-Myanmar Fraternal Alliance and Manipur Buddhist Association.
It's time for the people of Manipur to be prepared physically and psychologically for the impending changes as different countries have recognised the potential of Manipur and the strategic importance of its location.
Stating that Manipur would undergo dramatic changes in the coming decades, Gaikhangam called upon all the people to work towards enhancement of the State's resources.
Tourism and development can be accelerated when there is closer people to people contact, he stated.
The gathering was held on the theme 'Giving Cross Border Trade a Chance' .
Maha Boddhi Temple chief priest Bodi Pala, Ban-jana Hitlaya Educational Trust chairman Bhama Piya, ex-MP RK Khrine and PDA Chairman T Mangi-babu attended the function as presidium members.
