Students shut College, block Imphal-Ukhul road

Denouncing the transfer of a teacher of Geography Department of Biramangol College, Sawombung; angry students shut down the college indefinitely and also blocked Imphal-Ukhrul road on Wednesday.
The agitated students gathered at the college as early as 9am and shut down the A-block and the principal's office.
After the students locked the college gate, they came out and barricaded the Imphal-Ukhrul road restricting movement of vehicles.
The sudden road block by the protesting students caused inconveniences to the people.
Upon hearing the news of road block by the students, a team of Imphal East district police came to the spot and tried to disperse the protesting students, which led to a confrontation between the two parties.
After assuring the protesting students that a talk will be arranged with authorities concerned, the students lifted road block.
Speaking in this regard, college students' union general secretary I Rajesh expressed that transfer of geography department teacher Ibemcha while the college is facing shortage of teachers is unacceptable.
He demanded the authorities concerned to revoke the transfer order of the teacher or assign another teacher as replacement at the earliest.
