Imphal, October 26 2022:
Maintaining that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Rabi crops for marketing season 2022-23 declared by the Narendra Modi government will make it difficult for farmers to recover the cost, Manipur Loumee Lup has urged the Central government to review the decision and enhance the MSP.
In a statement, the farmers' body said that the 2 per cent increase in groundnut and 5.5 percent in wheat will result in loss of investment made by the farmers.
It reminded how price of essential commodities continue to rise up since the beginning of 2022 and how the inflation rate has crossed the 7 per cent mark.
It also stated that farming and production cost had increased significantly due to hike in price of petroleum products, seeds and machine parts.
Despite such situation, the minimal enhancement of MSP on certain crops shows the apathy of the government towards the farmers, the statement lamented, while demanding the government to follow the recommendations of Swaminathan Commission in fixing MSP for crops.
