FOCS announces pension for women leaders

Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) has announced monthly pension for Meira Paibi leaders, who staged the historic nude protest against imposition of AFSPA in front of Kangla Western Gate, on the occasion of Ningol Chakkouba, which the federation organised as 'Manipuri Ningolsingda Khudul Tamjaba' at Naharol Sintha Kanglup community hall, Wangkhei Keithel Asangbi, here, on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, FOCS president Th Manihar announced that the federation will provide monthly pension of Rs 2000 each to the nine surviving Meira Paibi leaders, out of the 12 women, who carried out the historic protest, starting from January next year.
Talking about the event, Manihar said that the federation hosted Ningol Chakkouba for women of different communities for the first time with the objective to bring emotional integration among the indigenous communities of the state.
They are planning to expand the scope of the event from next year by hosting it at district level by forming district committees so that people from remote areas could also attend, he informed.
FOCS vice-president BM Yaima Shah, Imphal West president K Amuthoi, Imphal East president Th Ragin, Thoubal president L Sana, Noney president Sachungam Kamei, Bishnupur president Yangkhubam Alauddin also attended the event as members of the dais.
Women from different communities, who participated in the event, were felicitated with gifts.
