Imphal, October 26 2022:
Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM) has appealed to the officials of the department concerned to cany out regular monitoring of commodities and their prices, especially during festivals, to prevent unreasonable price hike by traders.
In a statement, PPCM informed that they carried out a drive to check sale of expired products, underweight and overpriced items in shops along Masjid Road of Paona Keithel under the supervision of its convenor Maibam Bisheshor on Tuesday.
Despite repeated instructions of the government and appeals from CSOs, most of the shops in Imphal city area do not display price list or provide cash memo.
During the drive, PPCM team found disparity in prices of the same item in different shops, which shows possible unscrupulous price hike by some traders, the statement said.
Expressing concern over such unethical trade practice, PPCM urged the government not to interfere in CSOs taking up stringent measures to check such unwarranted acts.
It also appealed to the officials of government department concerned to carry out regular monitoring of commodities and their prices.
