Solar-powered cold storage inaugurated

Imphal, October 26 2022:
Mangjil Agro Farmer Producer Company Limited inaugurated a 10 metric-tonne solar-powered cold storage unit at Lamsang on Wednesday.
The cold storage has been donated by K Rajen Sharma, who previously worked as a journalist at Poknapham and Imphal Free Press, but is presently residing in Australia.
The inaugural function was attended by Rajen Sharma as chief guest and Company chairman M Kesho as president while retired IAS officer Dr Rk Nimai, ICAR Manipur Centre joint director Dr I Meghachandra Singh and ICAR KVK Imphal West head (senior scientist) Dr Th Motilal were present as guests of honour.
Speaking at the programme, K Rajen informed that he donated the cold storage to mitigate post-harvest losses caused by lack of cold storage facilities and inconveniences faced by farmers.
He continued that the donation has been done from his saving while working in Australia and further urged people to help one another.
In his address, Dr Rk Nimai expressed that the cold storage unit will be of tremendous value for the farmers and help prevent loss of perishable vegetables and fruits as had been the case due to lack of cold storage facilities in the state.
While noting that not every rich person have the sacrificial quality, he praised Rajen for his noble gesture and generosity to help the farmers.
