Governor, CM, others greet on Ningol Chakkouba

Governor La Ganesan, chief minister N Biren Singh, ministers Yumnam Khemchand Singh, Awangbow Newmai, Nemcha Kipgen, Th Basanta Kumar Singh, Th Biswajit Singh and Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh, Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Th Satyabrata Singh, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, political organisations and various civil societies have extended their warm and best wishes to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Ningol Chakkouba, which will be celebrated on Thursday.
In his message, Governor La Ganesan said: "Ningol Chakkouba" rejuvenates family ties and strengthens the bonds of love and affection between brothers and sisters, mothers and daughters and fathers and daughters, helping in promotion of unity and integrity in the society" .
"It is a very happy and significant occasion on which the married women come to their parental houses along with their children and enjoy sumptuous feast and receive 'Dakshina' or gifts as a token of love and affection, he added.
"Let us hope that the festival will be celebrated in its true spirit with the involvement of different communities in the state to bring peace, prosperity and peaceful co-existence amongst all", he wished.
Similarly, chief minister Biren said Ningol Chakkouba is one of the biggest festivals of Manipur which celebrates the unbreakable bond of love between brother and sister and which reinforces the parental care and affection for married daughters.
Celebration of Ningol Chakkouba has now been extended to other communities, states and countries as well though it was primarily a festival of Meitei community in the beginning, Biren said, adding that, the festival promotes the feeling of peaceful co-existence and harmonious living by reaffirming our faith in the traditional values of love and protection.
"Let us imbibe the ideals of this festival to foster the spirit of amity, harmony and good-will in our lives"; he added.
Meanwhile, in separate releases, ministers Y Khemchand, Awangbow Newmai, Nemcha Kipgen, Th Basanta, Th Biswajit and Dr Sapam Ranjan and speaker Th Satyabrata conveyed that the basic essence of the festival is cementing the bond of love between married ladies (ningol) and their paternal families.
It focuses on love between brothers and sisters and signifies the love between families, they said while wishing that the state be filled with happiness, peace, prosperity and communal harmony.
On the other hand, All Community Development Organisation Moreh (ACODOM) general secretary L Kamal Meetei; Komrem Union, North East India president Lakhomang Serto; Chingtam Ningol Chakkouba Observation Committee convenor Momsokam Bapui; International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) assistant IPR Thoi Okram; All Manipur Arts and Culture Students' Union information and publicity secretary Sanasam Hemjit Singh; National People's Party president K Kayisii; Patsoi Kendra Development Council president Y Premlata Devi; Manipur People's Democratic Front secretary Sapam Samungou Singh; Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) president in-charge Korimayum Boboy; and MPCC president Keisham Meghachandra also extended their wishes to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Ningol Chakkouba.
