UCM reaches out to Behiang farmers

United Committee Manipur (UCM) in association with Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) distributed around 2000 saplings of cashew nut to the farmers of Behiang Range and Mualzin village in Churachandpur district, a release by the Committee informed.
As per the release, UCM president Joychandra Konthoujam spoke on the occasion, stating that the cashew nut saplings were distributed with the aim of providing a source of livelihood to the villagers who are guarding our borders and also as part of the long-term objective to make Manipur self-sustainable.
Joychandra continued that UCM will continue to visit the remote locations in Manipur where the benefits of welfare schemes of the government are yet to reach.
A report highlighting the health status, education, power supply and road connectivity will be submitted to the authority concerned for appropriate action, he said and urged the government to extent its support in this regard.
While assuring that UCM will always stand for the people residing in remote and border villages of Manipur, the president said that for Manipur to become truly developed, there should be equal development in the valley and the hill, with particular emphasis on remote areas.
Joychandra then said that UCM has planted fruit bearing saplings at various locations with the hope that and these saplings would help in generating income for the farmers in addition to protecting the environment when they attain maturity.
The Committee will also extend all possible help in marketing the fruits bore by the saplings after maturity, he assured, while adding that UCM will continue to look after the people living in remote border villages.
