Imphal, October 26 2022:
Manipur Loumi Lup has demanded to review the minimum support price (MSP) of Rabi crops in the interest of the farmers of the country.
Manipur Loumi Lup in a press note maintained that farmers will gain any profit since MSP of Rabi crops was set at a comparatively low rate.
Stating that due to ever increasing prices of essential commodities, the farmers' body maintained that the inflation rate surpassed 7 percent in the beginning of 2022 .
In addition, the price of agricultural requirements such as diesel, fertilizers, seeds, machine parts etc skyrocketed thereby putting extra burden on the farmers which made agricultural activities quite expensive.
Expressing discontent on the low rate of MSP of Rabi crops approved by the Centre, the Lup appealed the Centre to set the MSP as per the recommendation of Swaminathan Commission for the upliftment of farmers who have been toiling to produce adequate food for the masses.
