Maram body celebrates Advance Christmas

Maram Welfare Association, Imphal celebrated Advance Christmas along with holding its Annual Gathering for the year 2021 at Awunching, Pheidinga on Saturday.
Addressing the gathering, Kamjong DC Rang Peter narrated how Maram families in' Imphal has grown from just 4-5 households toover 50 including students at present.
While exhorting the Maram students, officers, employees and business persons settling in state capital to learn positive traits from the other communities and apply it in their daily lives, he also advised the student community to be competitive in studies and their purpose while promoting community unity and oneness.
"May this festive season bring us forgiveness to each other with love, peace and joy," he added.
A brief history of the Maram population in Imphal was detailed by MU assistant professor Dr L Pungding and stated that Maram Welfare Association, Imphal has been in existence since 2013.Former minister Francis Ngajokpa, who also attended the event, conveyed his festive greetings of celebrating Christmas, saying: "It's a time to rejoice and celebrate Christmas with four different significance of Hope, Peace, Love & Joy".
SBI Porompat chief manager N Kangba thanked the organisers for bringing together the community under the festive theme and stated that Maram people have come a long way in trying to fit in other societies.
He also stressed that the younger generation should adapt to changes and places.
Citing instances of established names and companies which have disappeared as they could not adapt to the fast changing technologies and innovation like internet, he encouraged the gathering to adapt to the changing times but without compromising on one's identity and culture.
Taxation assistant commissioner Th Sanglou Maram also greeted the gathering and praised god for blessings and love upon the Maram people.
The event attended by many renowned personalities, officers, politicians, academicians and public figures of the belonging to the Maram community also included a musical programme featuring popular singers Margaret Ngiimei and Uttam Singh, apart from Manipur University students presenting Christmas songs.
