State handloom expo concludes

The 14-day state handloom exhibition organised by Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers & Handicrafts Artisans Cooperative Society Limited under the National Handloom Development Programme at Urban Haat, Nilakuthi concluded on Monday.
Speaking at the valedictory function as chief guest, Nilakuthi gram panchayat pradhan Thongbam Roksheni not that handloom products of the state are not only unique but the wearing them identify the rich culture and tradition of Manipur to the global fraternity.
While stressing that the need for preserving the traditional handloom sector and -commending the vital role of the artisans in sustaining the local economy, Roksheni regretted that though the government has been providing looms to the weavers, there are still many weavers who could not buy looms.
As such, the government needs to identify such poor weavers and provide them looms, she said, while appealing to the weavers to be sincere in their work and produce beautiful handloom products.
The function presided over by Society's president A Ronika was attended by Weaver Service Centre technical superintendent (Processing) Pooranmai Saini and Development Commissioner for Handloom, Ministry of Textile managing director Dinamani as guests of honour.
