Imphal, January 03 2022:
Boycotting the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Manipur, the armed United People's Revolutionary Front of Manipur (UPRFM) has declared total shutdown from 1 am on Tuesday till the PM leaves the state.
The shutdown, however, will not cover movement relating to emergency services, religious ceremonies and media, a UPRFM statement issued by its information & publicity secretary L Rolin alias Thoupangba Meitei said.
According to the UPRFM statement, the purpose of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Manipur on Tuesday is to strengthen India's occupation of Manipur under the garb of democracy and people of Manipur have nothing to gain from the PM's visit.
The visit is aimed at prolonging India's suppressive policies in Manipur and also to showcase to the world that people of Manipur accept India's electoral system and democracy, it said, adding that it is habitual of Indian leaders to visit Manipur at the time of election to tame people whose sovereign status had been snatched away by India in 1949 .
While asserting that Indian leaders have been continuously adopting policies which will portray Manipur as an inseparable part of India, the UPRFM statement said the renaming of Mount Harriet in Andaman and Nicobar Islands where king Kulachandra and his followers were exiled for waging war against the British in 1891 as Mount Manipur was manipulation of Manipur's history to club into Indian freedom struggle.
