DESAM celebrates 21st foundation day

Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) celebrated its 21st foundation day under the theme 'Sensing Higher Education Through Quality Teaching' at Kamakhya Pemton College, Hiyangthang on Monday.
Dhanamanjuri University vice-chancellor professor N Rajmuhon, Manipur University of Culture vice-chancellor professor Paonam Gunindro, Kamakhya Pemton College principal Dr Wahengbam Nimai, DESAM founder president Laishram Romesh and incumbent president Nameirakpam Edison Meitei attended the function as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, professor N Rajmuhon emphasised on the roles and responsibilities of youth in bringing peace and development in the society while adding that youth contribute a sizeable portion of the total population of the country.
Classrooms are the places where fate of the country is decided and students should understand their responsibilities while pursuing their study, he said and commended the contribution of DESAM towards the society and education sector.
DESAM secretary general Leishanthem Lamyanba spoke on the issues faced by educational institutions due to non-appointment of regular principals.
He also mentioned about shortage of teaching staff for M Ed course in DM College of Teacher Education and drew attention of the government to fill up the vacant posts and rationalisation of teachers in schools and colleges for improving the education sector.
