Aquarium Exhibition / Flower Show begins

The 7th State Level Aquarium Exhibition cum Flower Show-2022, organised by Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC), Imphal was inaugurated by Commissioner (Science and Technology) Devesh Deval as chief guest at the premises of Manipur Sciences Aquarium in DM University Campus on Thursday.
The inaugural function of the 7-day long event was attended by MASTEC director Dr L Dinachandra as president, while Science and Technology director Homila Hongrei and DM College of Commerce principal Dr A Nabachandra were present as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Devesh Deval urged the youth to consider entrepreneurship instead of just focusing on government jobs so as to bring about all round development in the state.
The priority should be on finding ways to become self-employed, he stressed.
Stating that Manipur has huge tourism and organic farming potential, the commissioner further suggested venturing into the fields of aquaculture and floriculture, which can ensure stable income.
In addition, it could help promote trade with other states and eastern countries though e-commence.
Thus, he wished for the entrepreneurs of the state to work together to expand this prospective market, while expressing confidence that the Aquarium Exhibition cum Flower Show will encourage the entrepreneurs in this field.
He also assured of organising the event in a more grandeur manner in the future.
Meanwhile, Dr L Dinachandra recounted that the Manipur Sciences Aquarium was set up under MASTEC on March 31, 2011, with assistance from the Department of Higher Education.
The centre studies the behavioural patterns of different fishes and has been working to save the indigenous fishes of the state.
Regarding the exhibition cum show, he said that event was organised to popularise and expand the business prospects of aquarium and floriculture.
He then informed that 40 exotic fish species and 25 indigenous species would be showcased during the weeklong event, along with 80 different flowers including Bonsai, exotic and indigenous plants.
In all, 10 aquarium and 11 floriculture entrepreneurs are taking part in the Aquarium Exhibition cum Flower Show.
