Imphal, February 10 2022:
Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has disposed a complaint filed in connection with the physical assault of a woman by two male neighbours, while directing the matter to be taken up in an appropriate forum instead.
The complaint was filed by Sorokhaibam ongbi Surnalata Devi (31) d/o Manihar of Yaiskul Yumnam Leikai, mentioning Langthangbam Sashikanta alias Bung (40) and L Somi (34) of Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai as respondents.
According to the complaint, the accused duo allegedly barged into the residence of the complainant and brutally thrashed her, in addition to destroying the things inside the house.
However, the respondents strongly denied the charges and submitted to the Commission that the fight was due to a land dispute.
After listening to the submissions of both parties, the Commission observed that the rights of the woman were not violated owing to the land dispute.
In addition, an FIR with regard to the incident had been registered by Women PS Imphal West.
Thus, the Commission disposed the complaint and directed for the matter to be taken up in an appropriate forum instead.
