Imphal, November 26 2014:
In a new twist to the dispute over establishment of sports university at Yaithibi Loukon, the Yaithibi Khunou Joint Farming Cooperative Society has categorically stated that land owners or pattadars of the area have no objection to the Government's plan to set up a sports university there.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club this afternoon, the society's secretary Elangbam Rajmohon claimed that Sora villagers do not own any piece of land at Yaithibi Loukon.
The society has 56 paris of paddy fields.
Out of them 11 paris are being contested but the matter would be settled very soon.
The uproar against the proposed sports university is instigated by some self-seeking elements guided by narrow political outlook.
But they do not own any piece of land in the particular area.
The society welcomes the proposed sports university and in support of the same initiative, relevant land documents were submitted to the Thoubal DC in September, Rajmohon said.
Wangjing-Tentha Kendra Development Committee secretary Okram Sunilkumar said that 44-Yaithibi Khunou is located within Wangjing-Tentha A/C under the jurisdiction of SDC Khongjom Circle.
Some people of Sora and immigrants settled in some portions of the paddy fields belonging to the State.
The uproar is driven by an intention to enlarge the existing settlement comprising of some 5-10 houses, Sunilkumar said.
Different communities are craving for Yaithibi Loukon and surrounding foothills.
One Naga UG outfit once tried to collect tax from the inhabitants on the pretext that the land belonged to them.
This resulted in some unwanted incidents.
All these controversies and disputes would disappear once the sports university is set up there as planned by the Government.
As for the affected landowners of Langthabal Khunou and encroachers, MLA P Brojen has already assured that they would be given alternative land for resettlement, Sunilkumar conveyed.
