Imphal, November 26 2014:
Normal movement of passenger vehicles along NH-37 (Imphal-Jiri) came to a standstill as the total bandh called by four Jiri-based students' bodies to protest non-fulfilment of their demands came into effect since last midnight.
However, some trucks reached their respective destinations with security escorts.
Most tickets counters of passenger vehicle remained closed.
No untoward incidents have been reported till the time of filing this report.
Jiri-based AMSU, DESAM, MSF and KSA have been imposing the bandh to protest alleged Government's failure to recruit adequate number of teachers for educational institutions located within Jiribam subdivision.
The Government and the students' bodies agreed to recruit 148 teachers to fill up vacant posts of various institutions in Jiri subdivision.
However, only 118 teachers were recruited.
Earlier this year, the student bodies resorted to class boycott and various other modes of agitation pressing for fulfilment of their demands.
