New Delhi, November 26 2014:
Congress is likely to raise in Parliament next week the issue of inclusion of the history of the North Eastern Region in country's school text books.
Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel has given this assurance at a discussion with MPs, academicians, students and activists here last evening.
Patel said he would also request Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled States to do something for inclusion of the history of Northeast region in the text books of their respective state.
The meeting was convened by Patel in the backdrop of several attacks against people from the Northeast in recent past in different parts of the country.
The Delhi police this year alone received over 600 distress calls from people of the Northeast origin.
The assembled Parliamentarians listened from the invited delegates about the fundamental reasons for the increase of such "hate crimes" in different parts of the country.
Patel and the other Parliamentarians were apprised as to how there was no mention of history of the Northeast in the country's text books that resulted that the culture of the region never entered the public consciousness.
