Imphal, December 23 2019:
Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) has demanded the State Government to come up with proper rules and guidelines for those who are operating boardings and hostels in the State.
Speaking to reporters at Wangkhei Junior High School, following an inspection trip to some schools in and around Imphal area, SUK publicity secretary Thokchom Dollarsen claimed that many of the school boardings and hostels operate in questionable ways and are often unregulated.
Reminding numerous incidents in which students were found dead inside hostels and boardings, Dollarsen said that SUK had, in the past, proposed some guidelines to curb such incidents from happening in the hostels and boarding during a public meeting.
Following the meeting, SUK along with the experts and public resolved to appeal the Government for setting aside a proper set of rules and regulations for the hostels and boardings.
Pointing out that a memo regarding the same was submitted to the Government back then, he lamented that the Government has failed to take up any positive actions till date in this matter.
The call to regulate private hostels and boardings gained momentum after Babysana was found dead inside the dormitory of her school on July 18 this year.
