Imphal, December 23 2019:
In connection with the World Farmers' Day, Loumee ShinmeeApunLup (LOUSAL) Manipur, organised a mass awareness campaign based on conservationofagriculturalland and wetland, under the theme "The life and soul of the farmers' at Kairang, Ahal Lup, Laipham Khunou, Malom, Utlou etc.
Speaking to media persons, LOUSAL president Mutum Churamani said that even though the Manipur Conservation of Paddyland and Wetland Act 2014 was enforced on September 10, 2014, construction of structures and buildings in the agricultural lands are still underway.
He then lamented that a bridge is being built at Kairang agricultural land which is not being carried out by the Government.
Decrying that the authorities concerned have not even come to inspect the structure and its legality till date, Churamani strongly condemned such acts of piling up grievances upon the farmers.
On the other hand, he cautioned that the farmers will never agree to the provisions included by the State Cabinet on December 17 in the Manipur Conservation of Paddyland and Wetland Act 2014 for construction of hos-.
pitals, shopping malls, petrol pumps etc on the farm lands.
Instead of pouring crores of rupees into building the malls, he advised the Government to improve and upgrade the Lamphel supermarket and the top portions of Ima Keithels.
Demanding the Government to look into the structures which are being constructed on farmlands after 2014, Churamani urged the Government to do the needful at the earliest.
