Chandel MDCs oppose inclusion of tribal villages in Sugnu SDC circle

Three elected Members of District Council (MDC), Chandel on Wednesday demanded the State Government to immediately revoke its decision to include three tribal-inhabited villages under Chandel Autonomous District Council (ADC) into the Sugnu SDC circle under Waikhong Sub-Division in Thoubal District.
Giving a joint briefing to newspersons in Chandel on Wednesday, MDC of 21-Toupokpi DCC, Dy Holngam demanded immediate revocation of the State Cabinet's decision as he said that the people cannot accept the cabinet's decision of November 30 last to include Toupokpi village which is under Chakpikarong sub-division in Chandel District to the proposed Sugnu SDC circle.
MDC of District Headquarters, DCC Tongsin Willingson in his statement welcomed the opening of the new Sugnu SDC circle but termed that the cabinet's decision as 'wrong'.
Toupokpi village which is under Chakpikarong SDC is already in Chandel ADC, said Tongsin Willingson and demanded immediate revocation of the cabinet's decision.
KSM Matthew Maring, MDC in his statement also warned of possible political unrest in the District if the Government fails to revoke the decision to include the three tribal inhabited villages in the new Sugnu SDC circle.
KSM Matthew Maring said the villages are from three different DCC segments and have remained under Chandel ADC for the past many years.
