Imphal, December 02 2015:
Despite the declaration that the country, including Manipur, is free from the highly pathogenic Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) in July, this year the Ministry of Agriculture, Dept of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, New Delhi, has been continuing routine surveillance, collecting avian samples from different parts of the surveillance zone and sending it to National Institute of High Security Animal Disease (NIHSAD), Bhopal.
As part of the routine surveillance programme, one scientist from NIHSAD, Bhopal is visiting Manipur to study the presence low pathogenic Avian Influenza (LPAI) virus in poultry birds/ducks in and around Imphal city.
As such, avian samples will be collected from wet poultry markets (live bird markets/chicken centres) in and around Imphal city by a team of Veterinary Department along with the scientist, according to Director, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services, Manipur.
It further appealed to all poultry owners/shopkeepers to extend full cooperation to the veterinary team in collecting avian samples.
