ATSUM petitions Governor

The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) led by its president Muan Tombing on Wednesday met the Governor, VK Duggal and submitted a memorandum having eight charter of demands.
Today the ATSUM representatives met the Governor for about 40 minute at about 3.30 pm at Raj Bhavan according to Muan Tombing.
The memorandum having eight charter of demands included the non-fulfilment of flagship programmes like Mahatma Gandhi National Regional Employments Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), Health Services, and anomalies in PMGSY.
Failing to expedite the commencement of Scheduled Tribe (ST) Commission was another point.
The other points mentioned in the memorandum included, the culture of service extension particularly for ST, non-existence of State Chief Information Commissioner, disparity in Education Department for Hills district, sheer negligence in reservation of Tribal quotas in every Government department, marginalisation of Tribal Rights by the Manipur Assembly Secretariat where out of total 319 strength only 17 are STs which is against the reservation norms and anomalies in the implementation of Tribal sub-plan (TSP) said Muan Tombing.
Regarding their demands ATSUM representative has urges the Governor for an intervention into the matter fro redressal of grievances to ensure equality, fraternity and inalienable rights privileges according to the constitution of India added ATSUM president.
The governor assured that he will take up the matter with the government of Manipur and will meet the Chief Minister O.Ibobi Singh on July 5 said Muan Tombing while adding that with the Governor they have a brief discussion regarding the memorandum they have submitted.
The student union will meet the Governor after two week to fully deliberate on their demands added Muan Tombing.
