MSPP to launch stir against deprivation of rights

Manipur State Panchayat Parishad (MSPP) has decided to launch a series of intense agitations from July 5 if its long pending demands are not met by the government within July 4 .
Addressing a press meet in this regard at Manipur Press Club here today, T Itobi, president of MSPP, said that Panchayats of the State are deprived of their rights and facilities by the government.
He stated that MSPP had already submitted a memorandum highlighting a charter of demands to the government but no positive response has been provided so far and informed hat an ultimatum was also served to Chief Minister on June 30 .
He also said that sit-in-protest will be staged at each block and it would be followed by rally and if the government does not implement the demands.
Other demands of MSPP included appointment of BDO to streamline works of Panchayats, availing of rights and facilities provided by Constitution, merge of DRDA with Zilla Parishad, increase of honorarium, handing over of MGNREGS funds to Gram Panchayat and Zilla Parishad etc.
