Go Green drive conducted at border areas

Imphal, July 02 2014:
3 (NH) Bn Assam Rifles of 28 Sector AR under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) undertook a forestation awareness drive with "GO GREEN" as theme in the border areas of Old Samtal village on 30 June 2014 .
According to a statement issued by PRO IGAR (S), in this initiative, the villagers were briefed about harmful effects of deforestation and Jhum cultivation.
It also brought out the importance of forests in our eco system and motivated the villagers to adopt new and scientific methods of cultivation, so as to increase the yield and save the depleting green cover.
A total of 250 saplings of a variety of trees were planted by the villagers.
The villagers expressed their gratitude to the Assam Rifles for educating them on the new methods of cultivation and the need to preserve the fast diminishing eco system.
In another endeavour, taking forward the initiative of saving and regenerating the flora of Manipur, 6 DOGRA of 26 Sector AR under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) conducted a "Go Green Drive" on 02 July 2014 in the Khengjoi Block of Chandel District.
Brigadier Rajiv Chhibber Commander, 26 Sector Assam Rifles inaugurated the event by planting a sapling at Moltuk village.
A total of 1000 saplings of fruits & ornamental trees were planted at Moltuk, Khengjoi, Phaisanjang, Khengjang and Molcham villages of Khengjoi block.
Commander 26 Sector Assam Rifles also gifted stationery items to the school children for their active participation in the event.
This noble cause of saving our environment was well appreciated by the local populace and villagers vowed to nurture the planted trees for a greener Manipur.
The commander, 26 Sector AR reiterated that endeavour will be on creating awareness amongst the troops and local population, for nurturing the planted trees for a greener and healthier future, the statement added.
