Raghuchand killing : Last rites performed, house of accused vandalized

Imphal, July 02 2014:
Following the arrest of an accused killer, the last rites of Nongthombam Raghuchand (31) of Oinam Keithel, Bishnupur district, who was found dead at Leimaram Maning Thingel Dam on June 29, was performed today by the deceased's family members and JAC formed in connection with the incident after receiving the dead body from RIMS mortuary.
According to a statement issued by PRO, Police Department, Bishnupur District Police was able to arrest an accused in case FIR No 78 (6) 2014 u/s 302/34 IPC of Nambol Police Station which was registered in connection with the discovery of the body of Nongthombam Raghuchand Singh (31) s/o N Ibomcha Singh of Oinam Bazar inside the bushes on the road side of Leimaram Maning near the bridge on June 29 .
Investigation revealed that the arrested person identified as Lanthoiba Yumnam Singh (29) s/o Y Deven Singh of Yumnam Leikai, Oinam in Bishnupur district, who is presently under police custody on court's order, was involved in the killing.
Meanwhile, just after hearing the news of bringing the dead body for performing the last rites, agitated local people ransacked the house of Lanthoiba.
However, a team of Nambol police rushed in and controlled the situation from going out of hand.
Earlier, before performing the last rites of Raghuchand, locals tried to take out a protest rally in the locality.
However, a team of Nambol police led by OC Premchand stopped the angry mob from taking out the rally.
It led to a confrontation between the protesters and police.
The protesters later on blocked the Tiddim Road at Oinam Keithel area for around half an hour by placing logs and burning tyres.
Finally, MLA of Oinam A/C Dr I Ibohanbi arrived and a meeting was held with the protesters.
Following the assurance given by the MLA, the road block was lifted.
