Imphal, March 02 2014 :
Janta Dal (United), Manipur State Unit has urged the Indian Government to discuss the Indo-Myanmar border issue in Manipur at the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit to be held at Naypyidaw (Myanmar's Capital) from tomorrow.
Talking to media persons at the State JD (U) Office here today, its President M Tombi said that Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid would be attending the BIMSTEC Summit.
The Indian leaders should take up the border issue and urge the Myanmarese counterparts for re-demarcation of the controversial Indo-Myanmar border.
He further stated that the present Congress-led UPA Government should work according to the people's aspirations.
There is no guarantee that the UPA Government would retain power at the Centre after the coming Lok Sabha polls.
The people's mandate might even compel the Congress Party out of the opposition bench.
Tombi maintained that Manipur is a state with myriad issues and problems.
The people seem to have no right to raise their voice in the State.
The people are being suppressed by the security personnel at the behest of the Government, he alleged.
