Imphal, March 02 2014 :
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has expressed concern over not allowing qualified Life Science teachers of different colleges to become Research Guides by the Manipur University.
In a press statement, DESAM said that although the Manipur University allows qualified college teachers of other subjects to become Research Guides, Life Science teachers are not given the similar right.
As such, many Post Graduate Life Science students are unable to do research in the subject owing to such an unequal treatment of the Manipur University, the press statement said.
Denial to qualified college teachers from doing research has become a major hindrance to elevate themselves to higher position as MPhil/PhD/NET has become mandatory to become college or University teachers according to the guidelines of UGC, the press statement said.
Moreover, it is not possible to get promotion without maintaining good Academic Performance Indicator (API) score, it added.
In order to maintain a good API, a teacher needs to produce or guide PhD/MPhil students in their respective subjects as well, the press statement said.
