Blind Welfare Week begins

The 48th All India Blind Welfare Week organised by Welfare Association for the Blind, Manipur got underway at Takyelpat Blind School today.
According to Association secretary Kh Premjit the Welfare Week is being organised with emphasis on creating awareness for the visually impaired community of the society on health care, medical and legal perspectives.
On the first day of the observance today, medical practitioners assisted by personnel of SRN Diagnostic Centre Padama Medicare collected and checked blood samples of 100 visually impaired persons for detection of Hepatitis.
Premjit also informed that prior to the observance a blood donation camp was conducted on February 18 in which 34 individuals donated blood.
While a Welfare Week flag release function would be held tomorrow at Raj Bhavan, road donation campaigns will be carried out on March 4 and 5 followed by a legal awareness programme under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority on March 7, he added.
