Protestors try to storm Court demanding death penalty

A large number members of meira paibi organisations and of JAC tried to storm the Thoubal Court demanding death penalty for the accused whose minor daughter committed suicide alleging rape by her father.
The protestors gathered at the gate of the court after hearing that the accused will be presented before the Court on Wednesday.
Speaking to media persons, Akoijam (o) Chitre, who is co-convener of the JAC formed in connection with the case reasoned that the protest was organised by various meira paibi groups of the state and the JAC to demand death penalty to the accused after they received information that he will be produced at the Thoubal Court for further remand to judicial custody.
Police must file charge sheet against the accused at the earliest, so that a trial can take place and he could be given death penalty for his heinous crime, she demanded.
Lambasting the police for not producing the accused at the Thoubal Court citing lack of security and vehicle on Wednesday, the JAC co-convener called it very unfortunate and condemned the authority concerned for delaying the case.
The protest was joined by women activists of Manipur Nupi Samaj, Apunba Manipur Kanna Lup, Khunai Kanba Apunba Meira Paibi Lup Thoubal, Thoubal Ima, Nongpok Leingak Lup and Thoubal Keithel Apunba Lup.
Meanwhile, Kshetri Leikai Women Development Association (KWDA) and SECDO Kshetri Leikai jointly staged a sit-in protest at Thoubal Kshetri Leikai on Thursday demanding to stop crime against women and children and award stringent punishment to culprits.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, KWDA finance secretary L Geeta expressed serious concern over the recent crime of raping his own daughter by a man residing at Thoubal Wangmataba Mathak Leikai and demanded stringent punishment of the culprit at the earliest.
Observing that using addictive substance is one of the main reasons for increasing cases of crime against women and children, she asserted that they will stand firm against addictive substances and also assured of extending support to the movement launched by the JAC formed against the raping of the daughter by her father.
