Imphal, July 16 2022:
Former health minister L Jayantakumar has highlighted the important roles played by clubs in the development of their respective localities.
Speaking during the inauguration of a new shed of Social Welfare Club at Kwakeithel Nganappi Thong Mapal on Saturday, Jayantakumar acknowledged that clubs play an important role in promotion of education and sports, not to mention of their roles in development of their respective localities.
He then observed that development is not only about reaping solo benefits, but also requires selfless service and concerted efforts, and as such, he hoped the new elected representative of the AC would serve the people wholeheartedly.
The function was also attended by IMV Ward no.12 corporator P Premila and Social Welfare Club president L Surendra.
Meanwhile, a distribution function of looms, sponsored by the state government for 30 weavers of Wangoi AC, who had filed applications via online for the same in 2021, was held at the community hall of Yumnam Huidrom Thiyam Leishangkhong on Saturday.
The function was attended by ex-minister O Lukhoi, his wife Oinam ongbi Lakshmi and local woman activist Thounaojam Kabita.
Speaking on the occasion, Lukhoi observed that as weavers often face dilemmas of not having a loom, the looms were distributed for them to hone and capitalise on their skills.
The beneficiaries of the constituency were able to receive the looms due to the CM Biren-led government and by his (Lukhoi) efforts.
As such, they will now be able to focus on their own livelihood and provide for their families, he added.
Lukhoi then assured to work for the welfare of the constituency at his utmost level, regardless of whether he is representing the people at present or not.
