Leishangthem Lamyanba, president, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has urged the State administration to look into the efficacy of 'School Phagathansi Mission' while raising questions about its success.
The president of DESAM shared these sentiments during a press briefing held at DESAM head office today.
He raised doubts about the success of model schools established by the Government in producing good students and questioned if the mission has been used as a means for unscrupulous individuals to earn money.
Highlighting the increase in number of students applying to Government schools, he added that no student should be turned away due to limitations in seat capacity.
He also called for rationalisation of teachers, recruitment of regular principals and urged parents of students to refrain from contacting the stuidents body for admission related purposes.
He further appealed to the State Government to meet the inadequacies prevalent in the education sector and work towards increasing the allotted budget if the available funds are not adequate.
The press briefing was also attended by Longjam Robin, vice president DESAM and Somorjit Luwang, secretary general.
