LH College fetes student rain 'catchers'

In commemoration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's nationwide 'Jal Shakti Abhiyan' campaign, Lilong Haoreibi College (LHC), Thoubal district has also been organising a series of activities under the theme 'Catch the Rain: where it falls, when it falls' since launch of the campaign on March 29, said a release of the College.
Informing that Internal (Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), NSS units, NCC and Youth Red Cross units of the College revamped the activities by organising rain water harvesting programme on Wednesday in view of the intermittent rainfall for the last few days, the release conveyed that a lecture cum painting competition on the theme Catch the Rain was also organised while three rain catchers of the college namely Tarique Nasir of BSc 4th Semester, Ashique Elahi of BSc 6th Semester and Imtiyas of BSc 2nd Semester, who successfully harvested rainwater through their innovative mechanism in the large pond of the college were felicitated for their voluntary services on the occasion.
The cash awards were handed over to the three rain catchers by principal of the College Dr Raheijuddin Sheikh immediately after accomplishment of their dedicated services.
During the lecture programme held at the college's multipurpose hall, importance of collecting rainwater were highlighted by Dr L Sanahabi Devi of Zoology Department and Dr Tanuja Devi of Environmental Sciences.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Zakiya Banu and Ashique Elahi of BA 6th Semester were declared joint winner of the painting competition, while Soniya Hassan Samsad Sajina of BA 2nd Semester secured the second prize and Dolaipabam Anju*and KA Rafique of BA second semester jointly bagged the third prize.
