Churachandpur, July 04 2026:
The Kuki Human Rights Council (KHRC) has strongly condemned the visit of Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh to Churachandpur on Saturday, alleging that it was facilitated by the Central Government without the consent of the Kuki community.
In a press release, the organisation claimed that the Chief Minister's helicopter visit to attend the funeral of late MLA Vungzagin Valte was not a peace initiative but a "deliberate provocation" that would further deepen divisions and mistrust.
KHRC alleged that the inability of the Chief Minister to travel by road demonstrated the loss of the State Government's legitimacy in Kuki-majority areas.
The organisation asserted that lasting peace cannot be achieved through "symbolic helicopter tours, security convoys, or force," and maintained that any meaningful engagement must begin with respect, consultation and recognition of what it termed the political aspiration of the Kuki community.
