Rain catchers feted, lecture / painting competition held

In continuation of Jal Shakti Abhiyan, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), NSS Units, NCC and Youth Red Cross Units of Lilong Haoreibi College, Thoubal on Wednesday jointly organised a rain water harvesting programme along with a lecture cum painting competition under the theme, "Catch the Rain" .
The college has been organising a series of activities under the theme 'Catch the Rain: Where it falls, when it falls" to commemorate Prime Minister Narendra Modi's nationwide campaign, Jal Shakti Abhiyan which was launched on March 29, 2022, said a release issued by Lilong Haoreibi College.
As part of the programme, 3 rain catchers of the college namely Tarique Nasir of BSc 4th Semester, Ashique Elahi of BSc 6th Semester and Sm Imtiyas of BSc 2nd Semester who successfully caught and collected rainwater through their innovative harvesting mechanism were feted.

The cash awards were handed over to the 3 rain catchers by the Principal of the College, Dr Raheijuddin Sheikh.
Later, a lecture programme cum painting competition was also held in the college multipurpose hall.
Importance of collecting rainwater was highlighted in the lectures delivered by Dr L Sanahabi Devi of Zoology Department and Dr Tanuja Devi of Environmental Sciences.
Sheikh Zakiya Banu and Ashique Elahi of BA 6th Semester jointly stood first position in the painting competition; Soniya Hassan Samsad Sajina of BA 2nd Semester won the second prize; and Dolaipabam Anju and KA Rafique of BA second semester won the 3rd prize.
