Smart TVs distributed to eight schools

District Board of Education, Imphal West under the aegis of district administration distributed Smart TVs to eight select schools under two zonal education offices for conducting digital classes.
Education minister Th Bas anta distributed the Smart TVs in a function held at Kombirei Hall, Lamphel on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister stressed on the importance of improving the education sector in order to bring development in a society and called for suggestions from the public, which could be translated into action by the department.
He also called upon the department officials and government school teachers to put their best efforts so as to attract more students and instil a sense of pride among the parents on saying that their children are studying in government schools.
Basanta also emphasised on the importance of other aspects of education rather than academic aspects while underscoring the need for imparting moral education among the students so that they could differentiate between good and evil, and choose the right path.
The minister further stated that on every Saturday, which is observed as 'no school bag day', the department will conduct counselling sessions, give awareness on war on drugs mission, and lesson on history so that the students could participate in the nation building process and become a responsible citizen when they grow up.
He appealed to the public and department officials to cooperate in bringing transformation in the education system in the state.
The minister said that he will visit all the districts to enquire about the preparedness and plans each DC has made for the development of education sector.
Discussions for improvement and step forward in educational sector have been held with officials and experts of the department under the guidance of the chief minister.
The distribution of Smart TVs by the district administration is an initiative taken up for starting digital classes that will benefit the students, noted the minister.
Basanta also assured that as a minister, he will work with total dedication and integrity for the best outcome and all round development in education sector.
Basanta also assured of exploring ways to get funding from different sources to bring improvement in education sector even though the budget allocation for education is minimal in the state.
The department is getting only 9 per cent share of the state's budget and there is not much fund left after payment of salaries, he added.
DC Imphal West Th Kirankumar, ZEQs of the district, SDO, SDC, other officials of the department as well as teachers of the eight schools were also present at the programme.
The select schools which received Smart TVs on Wednesday are Yumnam Huidrom High School, Kumari High School, Samusharig Upper Primary School, Hindi Higher Secondary School, SK Ideal High School, Keishamthong High School and Lam deng High School.
