Imphal, May 11 2022:
Liangmai Naga Council of Eastern Zone (LNC-EZ), Eastern Liangmai Chief Chairman Association (ELCCA) and Ahangruak Chief Chairman Association (ACCA) have strongly condemned the statement of Sadar Hills Chiefs' Association (SAHILCA).
SAHILCA had in press statement stated that Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi, Thadou Inpi Kangpokpi, KSO Sadar Hills, TSA Sadar Hills, Thadou Youth Association (TYA) , Vaiphei People's Council (VPC) Kangpokpi, Zillai Kangpokpi Gangte Students' Organisation (GSO) Kangpokpi, Kuki Women's Union Kangpokpi, Thadou Women's Association Kangpokpi and Kom Rem Students' Association Kangpokpi are the only civil society organisations functional in Kangpokpi district.
The Liangmai bodies decried SAHILCA's statement as very unfortunate, ignorant and immature.
They pointed out that the organisations named by SAHILCA in its statement are exclusively Kuki-based civil society organisations and hence SAHILCA should not try to mislead the general public through media by disrespecting the indigenous people and distorting the history of the land.
In a joint press statement, the Liangmai organisations said that the SAHILCA statement which appeared in public domain could ignite communal flare up in the state if the said statement is not clarified at the earliest.
The Liangmai organisations also said that they viewed such a reckless statement seriously and advised SAHILCA to consult historians, geographers and update themselves So that such an illogical statement which has huge potential of creating enmity among the communities can be avoided in future.
According to the Liangmai bodies, no particular community has the authority to issue any diktat over other communities in any matter whether it is a formation of a union or a civil society organisation in a democratic society.
In a plural society like Manipur, there is no place for hegemony or monopoly, it added.
