Imphal, July 04 2026:
Scholars and peacebuilding experts from India and Southeast Asia have urged for inclusive, development-oriented approaches to resolve conflicts in regions affected by ethnic tension, displacement and social inequality.
The call was made at the two day International Conference on "Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding in South East Asia and Neighbouring Countries" that concluded Saturday at Khongnangthaba University (KHU), Imphal.
The event was organised by the IQAC and Centre for South East Asian Studies, KHU, in collaboration with IGNOU, Amarkantak, and Kamakhya Pemton College, Hiyangthang.
Academicians, researchers and students deliberated on human security, gender, governance, indigenous institutions, education and community reconciliation.
Speakers noted that lasting peace requires more than ending violence- it demands inclusive governance, social justice, livelihood protection, poverty reduction and accountable institutions.
In Plenary Session III chaired by Dr Atom Sunil Singh, Registrar, KHU; Prof Dr Aung Myint from Myanmar spoke on sustainable peace in Myanmar and Southeast Asia, while Dr Phung Thi Thao from Vietnam presented on conflict transformation through poverty reduction.
Dr Sunil Singh said peacebuilding must go beyond security and politics, and must be rooted injustice, dialogue and dignity.
Prof K Bheigyachandra Singh, in his concluding remarks, said the conference created a vital platform for regional dialogue and community oriented peace research.
The event ended with a commitment to strengthen academic collaboration and people-centred peacebuilding across the region.
