CCpur, May 11 2022:
Two crucial highways in Churachandpur district that connect the State to the interior sub-divisions have been cut-off by the torrential rains as two separate road diversions constructed on NH 102B (Guite Road) and NH 2 (Tipaimukh Road) .
The bridges were submerged or washed away by the rising water level.
The NH 102B section was cut off at Khuanggin after a bailey bridge that connects the village with Sinzawl collapsed under the weight of two heavy trucks on May 2 .
A diversion was quickly set in place but the duct used was too small for the river.
The torrential rains that hit the area for the past few days added to the water load.
Subsequently the duct was washed away by rising water current literally cutting off all forms of connectivity along NH 102B.

Video clips shared by the interior villagers showed commuters could be seen carrying goods on their heads and walking on the iron frames of the collapsed bridge with water gushing beneath.
Today, even that risky movement is ruled out as the water level has risen sharply.
The fate of NH 2 (Tipaimukh Road) was no different as the road diversion put in place to accommodate movement over Luipi river in between Leijangphai and Tallian village too was submerged by the rising water level.
Till yesterday, the diversion was taken by goods laden vehicles despite the risk involved in being carried away by the current.
The situation worsened as the downpour continued unabated.
With Thanlon AC hit hard by the snap in road communication local MLA Vungzagin Valte yesterday chaired a meeting with the DC Churachandpur and officials of NHIDCL to discuss means to quickly restore road connectivity.
It is learnt that the MLA has requested the officials concerned to quickly restore the road connectivity and speed up the construction of RCC bridges.
Besides setting deadlines for the completion of the projects, the MLA also told officials engaged in road construction works to give daily updates to the Deputy Commissioner on the efforts taken up to restore the crucial communication lines.
