Imphal, June 02 2015 :
Komrem Union North East India has protested on Tuesday that the polling personnel who were on duty at 20/3 polling station under 20-Sagang constituency in Churachandpur district forced to end polling midway after only 33 persons from Moirang Mantak cast their vote at the booth during the Autonomous District Council (ADC) polls held on June 1 .
"All polling materials and ballot papers were taken away by the polling personnel before the scheduled time as they were purportedly told by the Presiding Officer that no more ballot papers were coming for the polling booth," union president Lalkhomang Serto told reporters at Manipur Press Club here.
He claimed that the ballots cast by the 33 persons were later sealed at the Deputy Commissioner office.
Serto said the Moirang Montak 20/3 polling station has 490 voters.
This polling station covers three villages of Moirang Mantak, Ngairong and Bunglishi.
He said the polling personnel forced to close the voting process midway around 2 pm after 33 people cast their vote at the booth saying that protest had been launched by people and so re-poll would be conducted.
"There is a suspicion that the State Election Commission was involved in the plot to bar Kom community from participating in the democratic process," Serto accused.
