PLA claims Ukhrul attack

The proscribed PLA the military wing of the RPF has claimed responsibility for the attack on a foot patrolling party of the 44 Assam Rifles.
The PLA cadres had inflicted casualties on the paramilitary personnel side at a place between Asang Khullen and Makan Khun under Ukhrul district on June 1.The attack on the 'IOF' team led by a Major took place around 12:40 pm, according to a statement by Roben Khuman, secretary publicity, Revolutionary People's Front.
It said that after receiving reports that the Assam Rifles team had been committing atrocities against civilians in the area on routine basis, the PLA cadres swooped down on the spot waiting for them.
The foot patrolling party of the Assam Rifles was sighted towards the site along with some personnel of Manipur Police and Manipur Rifles who were heading for their destination for ADC poll duty, it said, adding the paramilitary personnel who were trailing behind were attacked by the PLA cadres.
The PLA fighters spared the State security personnel in the attack as the outfit continues to uphold its policy of not treating them as 'enemy,' the statement said.
The 'Chief of Army Staff' at the 'War Office' has hailed the team of the PLA tactical command and those who had taken part in the attack, the statement said.
